Dispite its name, the Dodo Bird is not a stupid bird, although it is often considered to be and shown as such. The Dodo Bird was considered stupid by those who saw the birds due to their friendly approach. The Dodo Bird was first seen on the island of Mauritius, which isoff the coast of Africa.
Dodo Bird Appearance
The Dodo Bird was a wingless bird, that was gray in color. It is related to the pigeon family. It has a very noticeable hooked beak and white tail feathers.
Extinction of the Dodo Bird
The extinction is believe to have started in 1581. That year, settlers moved onto the island where the Dodo Bird leaved. They brought with the dogs and pigs. Up to this time, the bird had no serious natural enemies. In addition to the new predators, and increase hunting of the bird, the population started to die out. Eventually, the Dodo Bird went extinct. The last one was believe to have been seen in 1681.
